There are reasons students choose their high school. Unlike elementary and junior high, where somewhat predictable patterns of inter-school movement happen, high school is, for many, a time of selection. So why did our students choose Bellerose? It could be that we recognize that a strong curricular focus is critical to our students' futures, and we are proud of the opportunities we offer to our full range of students to aspire to the highest level they can achieve. It could be that's why young people become Bulldogs, but there's so much more. Our students cite the teachers, the sports, the fine arts and the preparation for life that our varied and strong Career and Technology Studies courses offer. There's the facility - second to none in the area. There's the commitment to community and volunteerism. There's the spirit and the pride that comes from being a part of a tremendously positive, welcoming, inclusive school community. When a school has overwhelming support from its community as evidenced by our Board conducted surveys of all involved, you know you have a winning formula.

Please be aware that students should be dropped off in the STUDENT parking lot (the North Ridge side of the school), and NOT in the staff parking lot (the Bellerose school sign entrance). We also request that parents do not park in the staff parking lot. Each parking stall in our lot has been assigned to a staff member.
Parents that pick up students at the end of the day, please use the pick-up/drop-off area to park when waiting. Avoid using the no-stopping areas, as it creates tight spaces for the school buses to move through. Thank you for your understanding of these parking issues.
Could you use some strategies to help you manage time? If so, sign up today in Student Services for our 3-session workshop during FLEX in Room 242 on February 28, March 6, & March 13 entitled: The Art of Time Management, The Psychology of Exam Writing, & Conquering Exam Anxiety. Interested students must attend ALL THREE sessions.
A big thank-you to all the staff who participated with the HUGE competition on Friday evening! 300+ athletes and coaches and 500 spectators packed Bellerose to capacity for the Zone finals. Bellerose placed 3rd in the Co-Ed Division! Congratulations to Mrs. M. Hawriko and the organizing groups for a FANTASTIC event!

Bravo to the fantastic cast and crew of Sweet Charity! This was a highly entertaining musical, and Rachel Bokenfohr showed great talent as the loveable lead character.
The orchestra and the company were fantastic, and the football players were fabulous!
Bellerose is looking forward to our 9th Annual Bikeathon! This year, we are raising funds for the Alberta Cancer Foundation and for Kids with Cancer.
There will be a revised class schedule for WEDNESDAY 07 MARCH 2012:
Normal school schedule will resume on Thursday, March 8th.

Bellerose Open House will coincide with the first day of our 9th annual 48-hour Bikeathon. One of our school counsellors will also be visiting Grade 9 homeroom classes during the last week of February and the first week of March, and will be available March 20th at Parent Teacher Interviews to answer parent questions about high school registrations.

Dylan Deuchar is one of six speed skaters who made the cut for Team Alberta 2012 - dedicated athletes who will represent our province at the 2012 Special Olympic Canada Winter Games, which will be held in St. Albert from February 28th through March 3rd 2012 (the speed skating competition will be held at Servus Place).
His first-ever speed skating competition was in Calgary, at the 2007 Alberta Winter Games - where Dylan came away with three silver medals and one bronze medal. He went on to compete in the 2008 Special Olympics National Winter Games in Quebec City (where he was the youngest member competing, out of all the athletes from across Canada, in every event). Dylan's hard work and determination paid off, with a win of two gold medals and one silver!
Bellerose is rooting for Dylan and all the other athletes in what will surely be a thrilling competition! Count down to the opening ceremonies with us, and find out more information on Team Alberta 2012. You can read more about Dylan in a St. Albert Gazette newspaper article, and be sure to check out his Team Alberta 2012 Profile Page!

Parents/guardians sometimes choose to take students out of school for extended periods such as vacations, visits to relatives, assistance to the family, and so on. In such situations, the school does not grant permission for the absence. Parents/guardians must accept full responsibility for the detrimental effects of the absence. Regular class attendance is important to achievement. If an absence is planned during the school year, the student or parent should let both the school Administration and the various subject teachers know well before the absence. Within reason, the teacher will advise the student of what work will be covered during the absence. Teachers may give guidance and assignments that will reduce the negative effects of the absence. Students are responsible for making up the work missed within a reasonable amount of time. Please note that in virtually all situations, significant absences will have a detrimental effect on achievement.
In order to fully support our students to lead long, healthy, active lives, Bellerose is a tobacco-free zone. Want to quit smoking? Go to Student Services for information on smoking cessation.
