Arts are the products of human creativity. At Bellerose Composite High School Fine Arts Program, students are not only provided, but are also encouraged in their artistic advancement of individual creativity through music, drama, and art.
Art
Art instruction provides the student with the opportunity to experience varied mediums in a classroom climate that promotes creative thinking and personal style development. Portfolio development is a consideration at all levels, progressing in importance as the student continues through the program.
Art 10: 5 Credits
This course introduces the student to all forms of art, linking modern day visual art to art history. Basic drawing, painting, and sculpture skills will be developed and then used in larger scale and fully developed projects.
Prerequisite: None, but some Junior high art experience is a good idea.
Art 20: 5 Credits
This course takes art skills learned in Art 10 and expands the scope of the student’s experience. Opportunities for in-school and out-of-school installations are available at this level. In-class and home projects are required at this level with emphasis on original work
Prerequisite: 65% in Art 10
Art 30: 5 Credits
Specialization of skills with emphasis on portfolio production geared to post-secondary education and employment in the arts. Evaluation through project and presentation of works.
Prerequisite: 65% in Art 20
Art 30-1: 5 Credits
Independent study and portfolio development are the keys to success in this course. The student is required to choose and develop a full-scale themed set of projects with the intent of an independent art show that will be presented at the end of the school year with all of the Art 31 students.

Drama
For all students who are interested or enjoy acting, musical theatre or any other areas of Theatre exploration! Bellerose is proud of there incredible Drama program and all students who explore the ARTS!
Drama 10: 5 Credits
This is an interactive class with a focus on improvisation. Other areas of exploration are: Theatre-Sports, Readers’ Theatre, Movement, and Speech. This fun, but structured course, builds the basic skills of each of these disciplines.
Prerequisite: None.
Drama/English 20-1 Full Year: 10 Credits
High School Flexibility Enhancement Project
Drama/English 20-1 is a combination of English 20-1 and Drama 30 and will focus on exploring the literature, skills and knowledge required for the ELA curriculum through the dramatic process of the Drama curriculum.
Using the movement, speech, improvisation and theatre studies/design strands of the Drama 20 Program of Study, students will explore personal, critical and analytical responses to literature including the novel, the modern play, a feature film, the Shakespearean play, poetry, essays and short fiction.
Successful Drama/English 20-1 students use a variety of writing styles and dramatic forms to convey coherent, supported thought. At this level, emphasis continues to be placed on analytical skills through the detailed study of literature. Students will be expected to use dramatic forms to analyze and represent understandings of content and theme. A commitment to writing and literary interpretation is expected. These students are independent readers, who do the majority of their reading outside of the class. ELA 20-1 portion of the Drama/English 20-1 is essential preparation for ELA 30-1.
Prerequisite: 65% in ELA 10-1 or 80% and teacher recommendation from ELA 10-2 and 65% in Drama 10.
Drama 20: 5 Credits
Drama 20 incorporates all the skill areas of Drama 10 and moves into the art of playwriting. Students will write a short one-act play and move through the production process. Technical theatre is also explored at this intermediate level.
Prerequisite: 50% in Drama 10.
Drama 30: 5 Credits
Students will master all aspects of improvisational theatre, have a sound technical background, and will be creating original scripts. The directing aspect of theatre is a major focus at this level. Students will direct a full-length play and perform it in front of an audience.
Prerequisite: 50% in Drama 20.
Advanced Acting & Musical Theatre
Advanced Musical Theatre focuses on the school's Musical Production. In 2010-2011, the students took part in ANNIE, an outstanding play that showcased close to 50 student-actors as well as countless students who created the sets for the show! For 2011-2012, our Musical Production will be SWEET CHARITY. Auditions are held in the fall. See Mr. Samuel or Mrs. Labahn if you are interested.
Advanced Acting 15, 25, 35 & Musical Theatre 15, 25, 35 (5 Credits Each)
This course will be offered after school (Blocks 7 & 8) and focuses on staging the school musical production. Students who cannot include drama in their regular timetable, or who want additional experiences in drama will be interested.
Prerequisite: None. Registration occurs after the start of the school year in relation to the production. See Drama or Music teachers for additional information.
